Changes to Medical Certificate Duration
8/3/2008
Good news! If you're under 40 and hold a Third Class medical, that certificate is now good for five years, instead of the previous three. For First Class holders under 40, those certificates are now good for one year, instead of the previous six months.
If you're under 40 and have allowed your medical to expire, it is automatically reinstated as valid for the new duration (60 months from the date of origianl examination for Third Class and 12 months for First). There are no changes for pilots over 40. For more information, check out the FAA website.
